New to Mandrake

I'm returning to the Linux world and new to Mandrake - I want to purchase the Official PowerPack+ edition for which the Mandrake site shows 10.1 as the current version but I am finding 10.0 on the self for a better price. If I purchase a 10.0 version will I be able to immediately upgrade? If so, any other reason to buy only 10.1? Thanks.

I'd wait for 10.1 Official which are due to be on sale anytime soon. 10.0 would be cheaper than 10.1 because it's an older release. you can upgrade, but it may take you a long time because of the shear number of packages that will need upgrading.

welcome to LQ ;-)

If u get 10.0 u'll sit and download +500mb of updates

I'm a club member and I got the 6 cd Powerpack of 10.1, I'm loving it so far. If u have a dvd writer u can get the DVD Powerpack even. If u dont want to pay then rather wait for the 3cd GPL edition of 10.1 Official.

The choise is yours.

Thanks for the replies. It already seems clear that I will want to start with the 10.1 release.

For now you can download the 10.0 official cd's from linuxiso.org. It's the 3 cd variety. That's what I have, and anything that I didn't get I can just get from urpmi. Good luck.
