network issues

I just installed mandrake 10.1 and for some reason i cant get my ethernet up again. I had it working somehow with the last installation of mandrake 10.1 i had,but i reformatted, and now i no longer know how to make it work. I dont know if its my driver or what. I am connecting to the net through a hub, and my other computers are working fine on it, but mandrake is being odd.

To start with you need to know what type of ethernet card you have. Make sure the module is loaded. Once you get there you can use drakconf to configure the IP default GW, hostname DNS etc...

Restart the network with this:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart
or
/sbin/service network restart

Also look in /var/log/messages to see if your ether card is recognised and if there are any error messages

KDE>SYSTEM>Configure your computer>Network and Internet>monitor connections.

Click connect
what does it say?? (connected or disconnected)

mine was always disconnected at boot dispite being started on Mandrake 10.1 install when reinstalling fresh.

Have you checked the /etc/rc.d/rc5.d directory for the sysinit startup script labelled "S10network"? That should be a symlink to /etc/rc.d/init.d/network

link /etc/rc.d/init.d/network /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S10network
