Network adapter not detected

I am very new to linux. I have installed Mandrake 9.2 and would like to get internet connection.
I have tried the wizard which says "No Network Card Adapter" has been detected.
I have an NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter integrated on the mother board ASUS: A7N266-VM
I am using ATT DSL (Covad) with a Speed Stream Modem.

Do I need to have a router to get connection?

Any help appreciated.

Read somewhere you have to install an nvidia supplied driver to get integrated NIC to work. I don't use nforce chipset myself so am fuzzy on specifics, sorry.
