Need to start X without Compiz from safe mode

I just finished installing from the spring 2008 Mandriva one CD and I was trying different settings for compiz fusion. I turned on compiz and insted of the native accelerator, I chose the other option (can't recall exactly) and now when X starts I see the mandriva splash screen for a second then the screen goes white.

How can I get X started in safe mode without running compiz? or is there a way I can edit a conf file to disable it?

Sorry for the double post, but I got it fixed.

I used drakxconf to disable all hardware acceleration.
