need to enter /root


Hi Guys

i need to enter /root cause tere is a file over there that i was going to modifie (source code file)
so i open my KWrite and go to /root, but the proplem is that i can't enter it, can someone tell me how to modifie this file by using console (cause that the only thing i have been able to use to acess /root)

PS
you can't give me some help where i have to either end my session or restart my computer cause i can't (i am running a pretty big server and it can't go down for a second)

1) Open a terminal
2) Su to root with "su -"
3) Edit the file "vi /root/somefile"

you need to make the file writeable while you're su-ing in root.

You could always open another terminal and login as root to do that.

If you mean in vi - press escape to get into command mode then type ":wq" and enter.

humm, i wan't my ftp server to do the following thing:
annominum access (nu user name or password)
and:
i wan't to share a folder in my computer where they can surf and download from it, but do i put it between the:
<Directory />
AllowOverwrite on
</Directory>

the folder which i wan't to share is: /home/user/Documents/ftp_share/
