ndiswrapper causing overheat?

Hello,

Pretty much a Linux newbie here....

When I boot up Linux normally, my system will overheat and shutdown while it says "bringing up interface wlan0" (i am using ndiswrapper). however, when i boot up with the nonfb option, it will boot up just fine. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

P.S. If I am not providing enough information, please let me know.

Are you sure the system is overheating? What evidence do you have for this?

What kind of wireless card do you have?

Hello, thanks for replying.

Like I said before, the fan goes at ultra high speed, and then the computer shuts off. When I start the computer after that, I get a message saying "Your system was shut down due to exceeding the temperature threshold."

My wireless card is a Dell Truemobile 1350.

However, it did boot up without a problem when I booted up in "nonfb" mode, whatever that means.

My guess would be than nonfb disables the framebuffer system. I, too, have a truemoble 1350 running with ndiswrapper and have never had a problem.

The framebuffer is a particular way of drawing on the screen. Outside of an X server, it's the only way to get graphics. Generally, it's used to create "fancy" bootup logos and splash screens. I wouldn't worry about it too much, myself.
