My version of Mandrake 10 has no option for shutdown available..

Hi all,

I know I posted before that I switched to Suse but I decided to switch back to Mandrake because Suse lacked alot of important stuff that I needed but Mandrake had almost everything I needed (python, all the c libraries and compilers to run programs...).

When I installed Mandrake before I never had any problems with a shutdown option not being available. In Suse I would have to click 'log off' and then go to the menu on the log-in screen to click shutdown and enter the root password to shutdown. After wiping Suse from the hd, I reinstalled Mandrake.

It doesn't matter if I am root or under my username, no matter which desktop (my system installed KDE,IceWM by default), I have no shutdown option available and when I go to the command line to type 'halt system' it shows a list of options to try and I tried a shutdown option but it wouldn't work. Is the software/os/kernel somehow corrupted or could it be the hardware?

I have to turn the pc off by manually pressing the button. I know it's bad to but I know no other way to shutdown.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm sorry to bother. Thank you :)

I forget where it's actually at, but Mandrake has a setting that allows users to shutdown/reboot. Try looking thru the control center (maybe boot section?).

Have a look at my post at 'http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=292266'
for help on this matter.

Mine did this when i first installed mandrake 10, there was no shut down option for me. i managed to sort it out more by luck though. This worked for me, create another user for the computer, switch off (using the power switch) and then log on using your new user details, this should sort it out, at least it did for me. Though don't delete the old user, doing this on mine bolloxed it all up!!!
