my laptop won't wake up

I just installed Mandrake 10.1 on my IBM X40 Thinkpad. I got it to sleep, but how do I wake it up? I tried many combinations of keys. Any thoughts?

Have you tried tapping the power button?

buldir 11-16-2004 07:21 PM

yep...no luck.

opjose 11-16-2004 07:26 PM

When you hit the power button do you get ANY activity as if the machine is starting?

If NOT this is not a Linux issue...

However you CAN reset the unit to get it to operate again.

Remove the battery and leave it out for at least 30-90 seconds and make sure that the machine is disconnected from AC power.

Then re-install and turn it on again. It should then come up.

Yes, when I hit the power button the hard drive clicks on, but nothing else happens. Could it be that ACPI is not working properly because I didn't install the kernel source code?

opjose 11-16-2004 07:35 PM

The question is if this is indeed a kernel issue.

e.g. is the kernel still in memory and trying to unsuccessfully wake up?

Pull the battery as I indicated.

If Linux subsequently wakes up then you'll know that this is indeed an ACPI issue.

However this has nothing to do with "installing the kernel source code" but rather the /etc/lilo.conf boot paramters.

I.E.

acpi=ht (which is often the default) DISABLES ACPI support which you do not want.

buldir 11-16-2004 07:43 PM

OK. Did that. Changed "acpi=ht" to "acpi=on" in my lilo.conf file. Rebooted. Suspend to RAM now wakes up when tapping the power button. Hurray!

Great!
