My command line is huge, baby!

Hola, when I switch to shell, ctrl+alt+f*, in Mandy 9.2 the letters are huge surrounded and overwritten by other symbols. The letters are so big I didn't figure out that they were letters until I noticed the huge blinking cursor and then I knew it was a login like it should be-but really big. Also when shutting down a screen full of symbols overwritten by symbols appears for a while and then finally the computer shuts down. This only happens when switching from KDE to shell, not going directly to the shell. It started happening after I installed GeForce FX 5200. It doesn't bother me a whole hell of a lot but if someone knows anything about this I'd be interested. Thanks.

A similar fate happened to me when I upgraded from a GF4 to a GF FX. It has to do with the nvidia driver. Do a,
Code:
# cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version
and tell me your version. It should be something like, 1.0-XXXX, and right after "Kernel Module".
Downgrading to 1.0-4496 solved my problem.

Right, is there any advantages to v.5328 that I might miss if I downgrade. Have you noticed any diff aside from the gigantic letters not showing up anymore? I was thinking I might leave it be until Mandy 10 comes out and then downgrade to 4496 if it's still acting up.

Thanks.

upgrading to Mandrake 10 wont fix your problem if its a nvidia issue. Unless you are using the 2.6 kernel, a via motherboard, or a Samsung X10 laptop - youll see no difference, besides your terminals working again.

You could upgrade to .5336. I have had no problems with that driver.

Well, it's fixed. I tried upgrading to 5336 and that didn't work so I looked around at the nvidia forums to find a pretty long thread on the problem but with no resolution besides downgrading to 4363. One person said that 4496 didn't help him. So I installed Mandrake 10 Community and now the text is clean.

So I guess (it wasn't a driver issue). Do you think that upgrading to XFree 4.4 in 9.2 would have done anything? Man 10 doesn't use it though and the prob is solved.

Ya know what, I f'ed up. I forgot about the fact that this prob will go away if you disable your tv-out. Well, I hadn't yet configured the tv-out when I wrote that it was fixed...it's not fixed.

so you are using the 5336 driver, and when you use tv out, it screws up too?

Yea, it will screw up unless I disable the tv-out in XFree. I might try using XFree 4.4 if I get the time to mess with it in the next few days and see if it changes anything.
