MPlayer + DVD

I recently installed Mandrake 10 Community and the MPlayer that comes with it. Everytime i try to play a DVD I get misc errors. Does anyone else get this? What can be done?

Have you checked to see if libdvdcss is installed?

i hadn't so i installed it but it didn't seem to make any difference.
what exactly is libdvdcss for?

examples of errors i get:
movie stops after the company logo
movie doesn't start at all and when i change to another chapter i get streaming error

It certainly doesn't take care of this type of errors, but since you didn't specify what kind of errors you were getting ...
libdvdcss is there to enable playback of encrypted dvd's

have you tried to start the movie from a terminal to see what kind of error it returns?

no i haven't. aren't most dvd's encrypted? just curious
