Mozilla 1.5 install problem
 

Hi guys

Well I know this might sound funny to most of you but I really don't have an idea of what I have to do to fix it.

I tried to install Mozila 1.5 on my machine and so I downloaded the program from mozilla.org and then tried to decompress it using TAR like any other time but I got this ....

when "ls -al" the file looked like this ....
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16120801 Nov 22 20:47 mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-1.5-sea.tar.gz

Now I figured something must be wrong with the file I downloaded so I d/l it again but still got the same result, can anyone tell where is the problem and how do I fix it??

tar -xvf mozilla*.tar

The files ownership was root. Were you su'ed to root? Consider installing via rpm if its causing you grief :)

If you are using Mandrake 9.2, you can find Mozilla 1.5 rpm here.

yeah as u can see "[root@localhost linux]#" I did it as root like I do most of the time but still didn't work :(

I'm considering getting the RPM instead although have some bad experience in using RPM since many times got so many dependencies packages problem ... well can't be any worse than this .... thx for suggestion

thx for the link ZipLed however I'm still using 9.1 so I guess I'll try to find the rpm on google .....

D'oh! Sorry, of course.

As for the RPM, you shouldn't need google. If your sources are set up properly it should already be there. Have you been to Easy URPMI? Set up our sources and then just go to configuration --> Packaging --> Install software.

Yes bigVoice another friend also suggested URPMI so I'll give it a try tomorrow as my linux box is at home
