Mouse Won't Move

Just installed Mandrake 10.0 Community and when booted in to X the mouse won't move. Worked fine during the install. Nothing fails on boot and am wondering if it is even starting the service to run the mouse (if there is a service). Trying to convert from Windows to Linux as a desktop and am not famiiliar with troubleshooting the GUI in Linux. my XF86Config-4 files says the following for my mouse:

Section "InputDevice:
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"
EndSection

I'm using a Microsoft Optioncal two-button with wheel as the third button. Worked on 9.2 but not on 10.0. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also I had to boot off the second CD-ROM if that is any help.

Change the Protocol option to
Code:
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Hopefully that's the problem. If it's still not working we'll try something else.

That didn't do it.

Thanks for such a quick reply. Mouse still won't move. I just verified again the connections of all the hardware.

What is the output of 'ls -l /dev/mouse'? Also change ZAxisMapping option to
Code:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
The "6 7" says use the 6th and 7th buttons for the mouse wheel. With a two button (really three. The third is under the mouse wheel) buttons 4 and 5 are controlled by the wheel.

Well, there appears to be no 'mouse' directory in 'dev'. That would be a problem right? I just changed the ZAxisMapping and am rebooting now.

That could be the problem. I'm not sure where the /dev/mouse link points to on my machine (I'm on a Winbox at the moment ), but this will probably have to be restored.
Code:
ln -s /dev/psaux /dev/mouse
The /dev/psaux is what a quick Google search brought up. It might be different on a Mandy system (/dev/input/mice or somewhere like that).
