motherboard question
i have an ecs k7s5a pro that is dying or dead. it's running a mandrake 10
system. what do i have to do to switch to another motherboard? can i just switch boards and have the system self detect all of the new hardware on the new board? how does this work? (not much of a command line guy here. more of an end user.) tia, BabaG |
i have switched boards on my old MDK9.2 install & it detected everything without a hitch. i'm sure MDK10.0 would work just as well. you may need to make some bios adjustments, but maybe not if the bios autodetects new hardware.
please note, that is my experience. your milage may vary. you might want to wait for a few more posts/opinions to see if anybody has experienced negative results doing this. otis |
motherboard question
thanks otis,
hoping for more positive info. i'll be using all the same hardware like scsi card, agp card. just want to switch the board for one that works. i anticipate that a new board will wind up assigning a different irq pattern to my addon cards. this was no problem for you? thanks again, BabaG |
i had no problems with irq assignments, or anything, when i did it. just swapped boards, rebooted, crossed my fingers. MDK did the new hardware detection thing during boot & away i went. hopefully it will go as good for you. it should..........

I switched the same MB ECS k7s5aPro as you to a Gigabyte. It went as though nothing changed. This was running MDK10.0 at the time.
