Motherboard Dead - Can I put in HD on new PC

I am about to purchase a new PC - my mobo died. What I want to know is can I simply put in my HDD with Mandriva 10.1 Official already loaded as it was before my mobo died - and will it load up OK.
It is a IDE drive.

I have done this before, and it worked fine after a bit of fiddling:

If your graphics card is different, and you are using proprietary drivers (Eg NVIDIA or ATI), you may have trouble starting X. This is fixable though (just install the appropriate driver).

Your network card may need a different modlue to be loaded, but this may happen automatically.

Your sound chips may be different: You may need to reconfigure your sound system.

Bottom line: With a dead motherboard, you have nothing to loose, so try it!

If it is only data you are after you could put it in the new pc as a slave drive, i.e. not the one that it boots from (HDDs usually have a jumper setting on them).

Just a thought as often new pc's will come with a bigger, better hard disc than your older pc that you could do a fresh install on.

yea true, but i have only ordered the parts that I need and just bought this hdd recently, so its the better of the 2. the other hdd is win$ for gaming only. So this will be my primary hdd.
