monitor problem

I was having trouble with my monitor on my laptop. (dell inspirion 1000)
I changed the monitor resolution and now the screen is unreadable.

So, when I boot into Mandrake 10.1 the screen is so distorted that I cannot do anything.

I was wanting to know if there is some way I can boot up with the command line and change the screen resolution.

I don't want to reload because I had so much trouble configuring my wireless.

Thanks Charlie

Ctrl-Alt-F1 should take you to a console that will be unaffected by the Xorg resolution. Login there, change the xorg.conf file, and restart Xorg

Ok, I was able to get a command line.

DO you know where the Xorg.config file is located and what program can I use to edit it ?

I'm a newbie so you'll have to excuse me...

I'd probably go with:

nano /etc/xorg.conf

As the likely place for the conf file and the easiest text editor. . .

Getting a lot closer.
Found the xorg.conf file in the /etc/x11 folder

Nano the editor doesn't work. I tried EMACS but I don't know how to get around in that. Do you know any other editors ?

Thanks

Well I was having no luck with finding an editor that would work.
The only two I could find were emacs and vi.

I went into the directory as root and found a file xorg.conf.old and renamed it to xorg.conf.

Anyway, it worked.

Thanks for the info on what file to edit and how to get a command line session....

Thanks again for the help.............
