Monitor blanks out
Simple question here. Just that the answer is not easy to find.

My monitor blanks out after only 1 minute of inactivity. So when I'm watching a movie, I have to move the mouse every minute to keep the monitor on. How do I extend the inactivity time? I stopped the apmd daemon but this is still happening. Is there some power management configuration tool around in Mandrake? I can't find it in the Mandrake System Configuration Tool.

Think I remember finding it in KDE's control center.

Nope. I disabled the power management settings in the KDE configuration tool but the monitor still blanks out.

Could be APM settings in the BIOS doing it or, just to give a complete answer (though I'm sure you've probably already checked,) you could have the screensaver set to blank the screen.

man xset
xset s noblank
xset dpms off

The screensaver is on!

Most likely your screensaver is set to the default setting of one minute. There is a bug in the Mandrake screensaver module that will launch the screensaver app even though there is no screensaver set. That causes a blank screen.

Check your creensaver settings and let us know...
