module changes go kaputt...

Howdy All,
I had all my goodies working, Netgear FA410, RTL8180 W/L, and Lucent winmodem. Yea! Boot the computer this morning and none of my "stuff" is working. After nosing around I realized none of the customizations I had made for module loading i.e. modprobe.conf and modules.conf are still there. Poof, all my changes are gone. Sooo, what is it I forgot or missed to do that would have kept my changes?? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
