modem/ethernet conflict in Mandriva 2006

Hey Guys,

I'm having a conflict with my Modem. When I connect my ethernet cable to the NIC the modem runs at less than 1kb/min. When I remove the NIC the modem runs at 7-8kb/sec. I know that there is a conflict but where can I go to verify it?

thanks

I think the problem is that your ethernet is becoming the default router, but I'm not sure.

Run the shell and as root, type this :: route
it will show you the routing table; The one with the 'gw' flag, is set as gateway.

You can change them manually from there (read the manual!), but I don't know where to find a configuration utility in your Distro.
