mixer icon missing in right panel

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Mandriva 2010.2 Free installed and just recently I realized my mixer icon is no longer on my lower panel is missing and my volume buttons no longer work on the laptop but my sound works fine. I can adjust the volume in the programs I use for video and sound with no problem.

I use my volume control buttons constantly and last used them the last week in May. I believe this may have happened after I recently upgraded my Operating system however I do not know when this actually happened because I have done a few upgrades recently and did not notice it until today.

According to my computer I have a Intel 82801H HD audio controller and use the Alsa snd_hda_intel sound driver. Also when I click on the Kmix icon on the Kmenu and the mixer will not open. Any help would appreciated so I can get my volume controls back. Thanks

After searching the Mandriva forums I came across a thread about someone's mixer only showed only one channel and tried what they said by using ps aux | grep kmix | grep -v grep and see if kmix is running and I got a bunch of numbers and letters and shut down kmix per their instructions with killall kmix and restarting kmix. It worked I now have my mixer icon back and the volume buttons work as normal.

Now the output from ps aux | grep kmix | grep -v grep showes this output:
[robin@localhost ~]$ ps aux | grep kmix | grep -v grep
robin 15492 0.1 1.0 323336 21356 ? S 08:01 0:00 kdeinit4: kmix [kdeinit] -caption KMix -icon kmix
