missing package

heyas

i am unable to install mandriva 2006 at all due to not having a -required- package

it keeps asking me for idconfig on my third cd, and no matter what i do, it would not install. even went into my windows boot to see if it was even on the cd
and it was not!!

how is anyone going to install mandriva if they dont include required files

You might have had a corrupt download, or when you burnt the disk it didn't write properly, so I'd check the md5sums of the disks and try burning it at a slower speed.

sorry im completly new to linux, this is my first install, whats the md5sums?
i was burning it at 8x, and my burner can go up to 12x (ya its pretty old hehe)

it was the only package that i had issues with as far as i could tell, im downloading the third iso as im typing and gunna reburn it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Md5sum

Those links will tell you what an md5sum is and how to check it.

it's a way of checking the integrity of the file you downloaded.

the contents of an md5 file would look like this:

Code:

e3b19edcc7c5824855c9f11da7ed65a8  Mandriva-Linux-2005-Limited-Edition-XBOX-boot.xbox.iso
You would compare the weird string of characters to the other weird string of characters you get from running the md5sum like in the link and if they're the same, you have a complete file, if they're different, you didn't get the right file.

i checked the md5sum of both the the cd i had made and the newly downloaded cd3 iso
both md5sums were exactly d1495da2dbdcb7793ae4cd8cf70fd9d7

both download from 2 different mirrors

purelithium 11-17-2005 07:34 PM

have you tried installing since you re-burnt at a lower speed?

if it still doesn't work, try using a different brand of CD-R.

Xtife 11-17-2005 07:35 PM

i havent re-burnt it yet
if there the same, then it would be waste of cd-r to do it again :)
i looked at the new iso file, and the package is still not inside

could i use cd-rws? cus thats all i ahev now :(

i dont think its a burning issue, since the md5sum were the same between the burnt and iso, and sicne the package was still not in the iso

acidburned 11-17-2005 09:23 PM

cds are cheap why not reburn at a slower speed to be safe.

Xtife 11-17-2005 09:35 PM

i burned it to a cd-rw
and it did the same thing

like i said, this is most likly not a burning issue
it looks like they simply just forgot to put this package in

I checked both on the Powerpack DVD I downloaded with my club membership and on a main repo mirror listed at easyurpmi and there is no such package as idconfig so there's something funny going on here. Where and when did you download those CDs from? At what stage of the install does it ask for 'idconfig'? What is the exact error message it comes up with?

Xtife 11-17-2005 11:28 PM

ahaha!! i was right :) that was exactly the problem

i downloaded the free cd isos, when it is installing packages it was asking me more my 3rd cd which is supposed to have ldconfig-2.3.5-5mdk.i586.rpm on it
well it kept failing sayign that this idconfig package couldnt be found

it seems that if i download this package seperately and add it to the iso image. it works!!!

so it looks like mandriva screwed up big time :) and all isos on every mirror are missing this file

tkedwards 11-17-2005 11:56 PM

idconfig or ldconfig? ldconfig definately exists - its a very important package - and its on both the DVD I have and the main mirrors. Can't speak for the 3CD download set though since I don't have it. Anyone else had this problem with the free download 3CD set?

spitfire5c 11-18-2005 02:16 AM

FYI, I have 3CD iso set and ldconfig is on CD1 -- had install issues but nothing relating to ldconfig

md5sums has nothing to do with Linux, it's a method used for verification of transmitted data.
It's something any computer user who downloads software fro mthe internet should know.
There are plenty of windows programs to perform this task.

Xtife 11-18-2005 03:05 PM

its ldconfig, which was on cd 3 for me

not sure why you guys have different stuff
guess they dont want people downloading the free version
