Missing machine configuration menu options in KDE

I just used URPMI to update my system and I went in to take a look at my LILO settings for the boot using the graphical tool that used to be there in KDE, and it's gone. I don't remember what the option from the KDE menus was, but something like 'configure your machine' and then a menu window would pop up that would display options like 'hardware', 'boot options', 'install software', etc. (something like that, I didn't memorize it) Does anyone know what I need to do to add this piece back into my KDE menus - or at least what the software piece is called so I can re-install it?

First, try executing the 'update-menus' script. That may bring back the missing menu items.

The main mandrake control interface is called 'mcc' for Mandrake Control Center. You will need to enter the root password of course. Actually, the /usr/sbin/

You could run the 'menudrake' program to see if these items show-up. Mandrake sets up the menu items for all of the installed windows managers and desktops for each language you have support installed for. Perhaps the shell install had not done everything correctly.

If you need to add this Menu Item manually, here are the particulars:

Title: Configure your computer
Long Title: System configuration tool
Command: /usr/sbin/drakconf

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Similar problem but different

Ok i have the same problem, i was running the software removal tool, and then launched the mandrake update tool while the other was still open. Both closed and all the shortcuts on the menu dissapeared.. Also there is no drakconf in my /usr/sbin dir. Any ideas? is it possible to reinstall the whole thing?

first, open a terminal as root. to do so, open a terminal session of your choice (konsole, xterm, eterm, etc.) type su (enter) type the root password (enter). then type drakconf or mcc (enter) & see if control center opens. if it does, then it's just a menu shortcut missing. in that case, right click the kicker "K" or star (whichever you have) & choose "menu editor". in the left panel go to system->configuration. click the "add application" button at top. name it, choose an icon, & for the execute command type /usr/sbin/drakconf. click "save" when done.

if drakconf is totally gone from the system, then in terminal as root type........ urpmi drakconf to reinstall.

I had the exactly the same problem (in fact, the problem is lots more shortcut disappeared including Firefox, or even "Home"). Solved by running "update-menus" in shell as root.

I typed in shell:
>(input root password)
>cd /home/(username)
>rm -r -f .kde

If you delete ".kde", your KDE menu will be restored as if fresh install.
