MenuDrake

When I go into MenuDrake, I see a whole load of additional stuff that I guess should be in my menu but isn't. What's up?

Can you give a little more information? Like, if it isn't in the menu, how can you see it?

I'm guessing what you are seeing is the stuff like "Applications > Edutainment > Science" , "Chinese", and whatnot. Those entries are just place holders for Menudrake. They exist in the Menudrake configuration so that applications can be added to those sections when you install any Edutainment programs for example. They are not supposed to show up on your normal menu. Unless of course you have some Chinese programs that are supposed to be in your menu but aren't or whatnot.

9.0 is a lot stabler than 9.2 but....

for some reason my menu system is 1/2 knocked out and no amount of 'save' or 'menu style' under menudrake makes any difference. i've checked a number files under /usr/lib/menu and everthing seems to be there but to no avail

i'm tempted to upgrade to 9.1 but don't know if it's just going to carry over the problem rather than fixing it

cheers

MenuDrake isn't perfect, but is better than the standard KDE kmenuedit which is pretty horrible and unintuitive (on my Mandrake 9.1, kmenuedit launches MenuDrake).

Both fall down on the obvious item that what you see in MenuDrake/kmenuedit should be what you see in the kmenu and it isn't. In my book, this is a bug that should be fixed - either by making the two look the same or by making it much clearer what is going on.

Exclamation

I usually click on Menu style and in the new window click "All Applications" and a x next to 'Add what to do Menu'. That puts all in but the ones in blue. Those you can't 'unhide' for some reason.

Hope that helps, may not though.

well good news, i found a way to fixed my royally screwed up mandrake menu without having to do a reinstall.

it was a little sledge-hammerish but a process of elimination none-the-less...

after reading a little doc on /usr/lib/menu i simply took my presario mandrake 9.1 /usr/lib/menu and copied it onto my dell mandrake 9.0 /usr/lib/menu and after running menudrake for the same old routine and wella! a full-fledged menu system (well mostly) back again!

whew...

like a receeding hairline, i didn't think that problem was ever going to go away

cheers
