Menu updater lost in upgrade to mandriva 2008
After upgrade to mandriva 2008, I have lost listing of many programs like Openoffice, Abiword, Menu Updater etc. from START/KDE menu..
I have tried update-menus.. kappfinder.. menudrake(no such command?).. but I can not update my menu to all the programs installed.. I cannot start OpenOffice by Alt+F2 as I do not know the command.. I wish to update my Menu to Fullest.. Please suggest a way.. |
And this is another reason why upgrades are never a good idea, no matter what OS or distro you use. It never goes smoothly as one hopes and it's better to back up your personal files and do a clean install.
This is extreme, but try deleting your local KDE profile settings. I'm more of a gnome user so I'm not sure where this would be, but it's usually a hidden .file, like .kde or something. BUT, I don't use Mandriva so I don't know if it's a system thing or a local user setting. Have you tried the obvious reboot? |
tried reboot.. update-menus..drakmenustyle..
your suggetstion appeals but I am a newbie so do not want to hurry to a drastic step of deleting ./kde until I come to an understanding of fundamentls of the problem.. thaks for your suggestion |
You may need to install the kde-config files.
These files are sometimes left out or not configured during a major upgrade, early 2007 versions. urpmi mandriva-kde-config-common (and any deps) Like, mandriva-kdm-config-2008.0-28mdv2008.0.noarch.rpm Cheers, Glenn |
Menudrake is no more
In another Forum, I am told that menudrake is not any more in Mandriva 2008, and I should try either alacarte (for gnome) or kmenuedit (for kde)..
|
kmenuedit it is then.
<please try the suggestion I submitted> |
Quote:
Kmenuedit opens only the menu editor not menu updater (that's what I need desperately) |
Try issuing update-menus -n as root and see if that helps.
