MDK9.2 - MIDI using WinXP soundfont?

All,

I was wondering if I can use the soundfont (?) from my WinXP installation in Linux for MIDI playback?

Presently, I have Gravis, Chaos12m and Unison soundfonts installed. I have them all configured for Timidity++ and Kmidi. In a nutshell, Timidity++ sounds much better than Kmidi, but they both sound terrible. The sound quality that I get from WinXP is so much better.

Since WinXP has to have some sort of soundfont files, or some other format, I would think that I could load its files into Linux. Has anyone tried this?

Perhaps it is Direct X that is providing the midi "sound font" as you have put it. I don't think XP has soundfonts. I belive windoze uses a file called gm.dls. Might check for that file or a file with that extension in your XP. I don't have any clue to whether it portable to linux or not :(

cheers,

Gary
