Angry mdk9.2 and ut2003 install failure

i CANNOT get ut2003 to install on mandrake 9.2

i have installed it on mdk9.1 about 10 times
so i know the routine

but it will not install
the cd gets "stuck" in the drive and only a reboot will get it out (root cannot get it either)
most of the time the installer wont even show the license agreement

i have tried it with the installer on the hard drive and from the cd
i have tried with all three disks in the cd (not at the same time obviously)

i'm stuck

has anyone else had this problem?

has anyone any ideas?

Use a seperate terminal to mount and umount the cds as and when you need to change them, and try not cd-ings into a directory on a cd (might prevent umounting).

yes
to use one terminal for mount/unmounting
and another one for initiating the installer-script was the method i was using

I installed the demo version of the game to make sure it wasn't a "more recent file" problem, but the demo installed fine.

hmmmmm

Did you ever get it to install? I'm having the same trouble.

Thanks!

no i didnt
it's a copy of the game so it's morally suspect to start with

and it seemed such a shame to take a legal OS
and ruin it with pirate ware
so i didn't pursue it

Help is here!

Make sure supermount is turned off (Mandrake Control Center) before you start.

Copy linux_installer.sh (3rd CD) to someplace in your home directory.

Open a shell. cd to where linux_installer.sh is. Put disc 1 in CD-ROM drive.

I'll assume that your CD-ROM is /mnt/cdrom

su (become super user)

In the shell type:

"export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom" (no quotes)

"sh linux_installer.sh" (no quotes)

To change CDs you may need to open a second shell and type:

"eject /mnt/cdrom" (no quotes)

(I had to do this for the second CD [it asks for the first] but the hardware eject worked fine between the second and third CDs)

GOOD LUCK!

Credits to several other threads in several other forums. This is the same fix required for Descent 3 (linux only edition).

Good Luck!
