Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

However, during my very first package selection install,
I didn't encounter selecting kernel sources. Maybe, I carelessly
neglected it, but I didn't see it during the install.
I only have a 6-CD set; I'm afraid if either of your method
prompts me for a separate DVD (?) source code. I hope not.

Regards,
Don't worry if you dont have a source (CD DVD website FTP. hdd) added to media manager during install or the urpmi.addmedia command it will not evevr in a million years ask for a cd you dont have.
You don't get an option to install kernel-source-2.6 during installation its a hidden option and can't even be installed in powerpack during iniatial install.
but it is still free to download from urpmi kernel-source-2.6
