MDK 9.2 -When i install programs, it changes start menu, and i can't access anything
When i install extra programs using the mandrake main system administrator program (I forgot the name of it, Drakmenu i think), with rpm install, it changes my start menu into some other type of menu. The little start menu like in windows, that lists programs on the lower left side of the taskbar. Its like, it changes into a classic type start menu. just like in windows xp. so I cannot see all my programs. i can't even access any administrator programs like control panel to change the style of the start menu.
why does 9.2 do this in the first place? And how can i change this from happening? I reinstall 9.2 because of this, and i still get this problem.

Re: MDK 9.2 -When i install programs, it changes start menu, and i can't access anything
I haven't had this problem but I've had my email menu disappear from the start menu on my 1 computer and I have never been able to locate it again.

it's happening (along with a crapload of other bugs) because mandrakesoft pushed the release out the door. sounds kinda like a certain monopolistic os vendor we all know and despise.

I think this will fix it for you.
Go to configuration --> Other --> Menudrake
Click the MenuStyle button
Select the "All Applications" option
Save and exit.
Good luck.

Well, I can understand your frustration, but it seems like a shame to give up so soon. Why don't you try a re-install and see how it goes. The usual way of installing programs is to use "software installer" (right click) after you've downloaded an rpm, or to use the "install software" choice in the packaging menu.
These tools will automatically create the menu entries for you... in fact, I doubt you'll ever need to run menudrake.
If you do decide that linux isn't right for you... well good luck with your computing regardless. I hope you find your way back to Linux in the future... and we'll always be here for you.
That said, its probably still worth at least to try to re-install and see if it stays stable for you.
Good luck WinUnixUser!

This is my second reinstall of 9.2. im on 56k so i got my bro to download it for me with his cable modem. I picked what i wanted install during installation, and i know i picked xmms also, i went to fix my audio mixer and notice xmms wasn't listed, i then try to install it using software installer, install software like you said. thats what i meant in my first post, but i forgot the name of it. but right after i use that option to install rmps off the cds, and install it. my start menu changes. and only about a handful of programs are show in a submenu. which = to about 9 mabe. I will give it one more try sometime. if not, i can use the extra space for a backup partiton on windows. If i can, I try some other distro some other time or try a newer MDK release, which i may always try.

Well, this is a problem, but its a small problem that is easily fixable. Just right click on the K that is the start menu, and then go to menu editor. Just click save and it will fix this problem. It happens every once in a while, but in my opinion just a minor bug. MDK 9.2 is still incredibly awesome in my opinion.

ok, im having these problems hardcore now. I have tried everything to update the menus, nothing, my mouse settings keep disapearing as well. When i go to the configure desktop screen, nothing is there. When i click on the menu, nothing is there. When i update the menu, more dissapears. What the heck is going on. This is more problems that people have with a horrible insaillation of windows. I love linux and dont want to change back to windows. Should i try a different distribution? Redhat? Im so frustrated right now with this thing.

Yay! Alright, the problem in my opinion seems to be involved with one of the updates. I went ahead and removed all of the updates i did before i had the problems and my menus are now there.
I suggest doing this as well and not updating for a good few days until maybe the problem is sloved.
I need the menus, cause i dont even really know what i have installed on my computer yet, im new to this, and i kinda need a reference.
Anyways, hope this helps some.

i told you a hundred times, 9.2 is NOT ready....
give the boys a chance to work out the rough edges, in the meantime 9.1 rocks....
isn't it better to have a system that works solid without the very latest and greatest than have the latest and greatest but nothing working....?
