MDK 10 - xserver crashes after first post-install reboot

Hi - just installed Mandrake 10 Community and it was fantastic: everythings worked out of the box - even my TV card...

But the fun didn't last very long: after my first reboot, I can't get into KDE or Gnome. After the graphical login, KDE starts to load, then I get the message
no write access to /home/user/.ICEauthority KDE is unable to start.
Then KDE stops loading and I'm back on the graphical login screen. Same with Gnome except that I don't get the error message.

I can get in using IceWM, but the system seems really fucked up: error message galore, no network, no sound, ... so I don't think it's just a problem with the access rights for .ICEauthority.

I remember having the same problem with Mandrake 10 ReleaseCandidate.

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Thanks!

There are two things that need to be done to make sure it's not a problem related to access right. First,
$ chown -R user /home/user
$ reboot
The reason why sound and other related facilities might not be accessible is that the permissions (esp in /dev/) might have been retained by some other user. So rebooting fixes that, if this is the cause.

tried that. Now I can get into Gnome, but KDE now hangs while booting.
Still no sound/network...

:confused:

Thanks for the info Qhayaal, my box wouldn't use KDE until I chown'd my home dir.

Note. It didn't require a reboot, X worked right after the chown.
