yea but will it work in a windows env, .. i am not currently running a nix distro.. just cough*** cough ** xp pro

You could try installing cygwin and see if it works.

Cygwin can be expected to run on all modern 32 bit versions of Windows, except Windows CE. This includes Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
