I have a pentium II based system with a 266mhz klamath processor.
Until kernel 2.6.3-7 I had no problems booting mdk.I have just one harddisk of 6.5 Gigabyte. The 10.1 system boots perfectly with the 2.6.3-7 kernel.
But now every time I try to select the 2.6.8.1-12 kernel from the lilo graphical menu the screen goes completely black(not even a blinking cursor!) and stays that way.
Tried everything:
force no local apic, APCI etc etc.
First installed the kernel source and GCC++ 3.4.1 and after that the kernel itself.
checked if the initrd was on the right spot(it was)
Tried other 2.6.8 kernels I could find. But to no avail. it did not help.
Why suddenly this happens is clear to me. It is kernel related but how to solve this is a to big of a problem to this newbie not knowing anything of kernels and how to compilate them.

Would highly appreciate some constructive help
