Md5sum

I've been wanting to try a Linux kernel-based OS.

I have an old Compaq with a K6-2 333 with 128mb of memory that I want to use.

I downloaded the Fedora ISOs and burned them to CDs. I then tried to install it. Before installing it I ran the scan utility that checks CD/ISO integrity. The scan faiiled. Information at the Fedora Project recommends that, after downloading, one should run the MD5SUM utility. That util seems to be just a text file.

Despite the scan failure I installed anyway on a clean hard drive. After installation I rebooted. The Fedora login-in screen appeared asking for a usernam and password. It would not accept and log-in info.

I went on mIRC to one of the Linux help rooms and explained all this. The only "help" anyone offered was to try re-installing Fedors or to install Madriva instead.. I have downloaded the LITE, free version but have not yet installed it.

What do I with MD5SUM? How do I run it?

to use md5sum type 'md5sum filename' and compare the string generated to the one from the place you downloaded the file from, they should match.
