Mandriva USB drive issues

Hi

I posted here a couple of weeks ago but the same problems have been occurring and the solutions offered only seem to work intermitently.

I have a couple of USB devices -one a usb drive and the other an SD card drive - and whenever I connect them I am unable to write to them. It appears in Konqueror that I have successfully copied files onto these devices, but when I reinsert them no files have been saved.

I've tried using this line:

/mnt/removable auto user,kudzu,exec,iocharset=iso8859-1,noauto,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0

but it only works sometimes - I've got it working twice I think.

Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Dave

PS:
I am running an up-to-date distro of Mandriva (64-bit) if that is of any help.

It could help if you post a copy of your
/etc/fstab
/etc/mtab
files so we can see firstly what mounts automatically and then what the user can mount

Here they are

Here is my Fstab:

/dev/hdb1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0022,user,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0022,iocharset=iso8859-15,sync,codepage=850 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs umask=0022,nls=iso8859-15 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb5 swap swap defaults 0 0

Here is the mtab file:

/dev/hdb1 / ext3 rw 0 0
none /proc proc rw 0 0
none /sys sysfs rw 0 0
none /proc/bus/usb usbfs rw,devmode=0664,devgid=43 0 0
/dev/hdb6 /home ext3 rw 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount rw,sync,dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,-- 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs rw,umask=0022,nls=iso8859-15 0 0
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,noexec,nosuid,nodev,users,umask=0022,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,user=angie 0 0

Hope this sheds some light

Cheers

Dave

I find this fstab and mtab a bit confusing but I suggest as nobody else is answering you ATM you try putting your line into fstab file ,saving it and rebooting with the usb stick or flash card plugged in.
"/mnt/removable auto user,kudzu,exec,iocharset=iso8859-1,noauto,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0"

I am assuming you also have a Windows partition as hda1 and this is not in fact the flashdisk.

As I understand it the mtab records whats plugged in by the users and the file is updated as you unplug them.
"none /proc/bus/usb usbfs rw,devmode=0664,devgid=43 0 0" in mtab seems to be saying its seeing the usb and has changed mtab

I.m hoping somebody else with more knowledge can help us both from here
