Mandriva One 2008.1 hangs on install at Mandriva Products screen

Well, I'm trying to install 2008.1 on an older AMD machine. Prior to this, it had run Mandrake 10.1 like a champ for quite a while.

I boot into the 2008.1 One cd, and all is good. I blew away all of my old partitions (the /var partition was way to small. I had been using sym links to another partition to get by), built the new partition table, and formatted all of the partitions. All is good.

The install starts, and gets to the Products screen.

It will make it past the third "bar", and get to about 10% complete on the fourth. From there, it hangs. With the cd rom light and the hard drive light flashing, so there is some action. But after an hour, I decided it wasn't going to move.

I've tried multiple partitioning schemes with no luck. I'm in the process of trying an old 4x read cd drive to see if maybe my hard ware was creating issues.

As I wait for a cd drive, which I once thought would never be used as anything but a paper weight, I'll ask if anyone has had similar issues with their install.

Well, it turns out, I have answered my own question.

W/ the old cd drive, it looks like it is going to install. Now, what the root cause is, I have no idea. Possible culprits: hardware, speed of the drive, IDE cable it was on, heat (issues were last night after it had run all day, it worked this morning after having cooled all night).

Bottom line, it's almost done installing.

Now I get to reconfigure everything I had working in my last box. I just hope I can get VNC up and running (the reason I decided to upgrade). This has been a hassle already.
