Recently, i install Mandriva Linux 2007 Free edition in my computer but unfortunately i don"t know how to configure the internet. My internet connection type is ADSL Broadband.
In windows, we just need to create a dialer and then click connect. By the way, Linux is not same as window. That why i feel disappointed about this incident. Please help. No internet no life. Thanks in advance.

Hum, first, linux is not meant to be the "same as windows". That's why it's much better IMO.
The sensible thing to do in your problem is to go to MCC, should now be Mandriva Control Center
and there look for internet connection or Network, perhaps.

Configure your network as prompted, and you'll be alright.
Connect with a cable, not with wireless if you have a laptop (BTW, you didn't even say).
I tell you this cause I installed Mandriva 2007 a month ago and with ADSL broadband, which
is what I also have, I had no dificulty to connect.

You may not have noticed, but during install, there was a summary of all your options.
You should have poked a little more into it.


It's NOT like Windows, Take it as it is.

Tip from me > Click on that mandriva star, And you'll see list of menu's. Click on "System Manager" or something called likewise. Inside that you'll find "Network Configuration" tab. Click on it and configure your network card.

Don't just think that its like Microsoft Windows. Use your mouse and keyboard at the best and you'll get to know how to do everything in Linux. If still problem persists simply click on "Help & support" tab. Open anything, and there you have option to ask for Help..

Help me. I still cannot connect to internet. I have configure the DLS internet connection type but LAN is not connected. When i click monitor network, got two tabs which is etho and PPOE. At the bottom of etho tab, i found that not connected appear on the screen. Help me how to connect my LAN. I have try to click connect but after a while it turn out the same things which is not connected. When i go to Mandriva Control Center and try to configure the etho or LAN, seems like it cannot be change. I in stuck right now. Please help me. Your help is greatly appreciated. In Network Config tab how many adapters it is showing ? Is it showing something like >>> Intel Pro 100 like that ?

It indicates the name of lan card your computer has. Can you pls explain your computer's config in details? Is it Pentium 4 machine
or what ? This problem usually occurs when Mandriva fails to detect lan card in your desktop. DO 1 thing .

Check the lan card port. Can you see blinking light over there of green colour ? If yes it measn your lan card is working properly and detected by mandriva linux. You can also see if Mandriva found your lan card by pressing "Esc" key while booting Mandriva linux. If it shows name of ur ethernet/lan card then recheck software config.

Also tell , how you connect? You have direct CAT5e lan cable which goes to your ethernet port or the cable goes to DSL modem to your machines ethernet port ?
