I am not sure how to install programs from the CD, but I do know you can install them using mirrors via the Mandriva Linux Control Center. If you are using KDE, simply choose the Install, Remove, and Update Software menu option. (This is on the "start menu.")

I just saw this link posted:
Unofficial Mandriva 2006 Starter Guide I don't know how well it'll help with 2007, but might be worth a look.

God bless.

Add the cd as a source in urpmi. You can do this through MCC. Then the depends will not be a problem.

If you use the KDE desktop, there are a few ways to install software from the CD used to do the installation. The first (easiest) way is as above using the Mandriva Package manager (System / Configuration / Packaging / Install, Remove & Update software). The source for the CD should have been set up when you did the installation, so you should be able to put the CD in the drive (the drive used for installation too), cancel the inquiry dialog when it pops up, open the Package Manager. Any software you choose to install will be installed from the CD unless you have set up Internet sources.

Another way is to put the CD in the drive used for the installation, choose open in a new window when the dialog pops up, navigate to the directory containing the rpm files, <ALT>+<Click> the rpm file you wish to install, then select 'Open With ...' in the menu that pops up, and click on Software Installer in the next menu. You will have to provide the root password, then the package and any dependencies needed will be installed. When the process is finished, click the 'Done' button.

All of this depends on the fact that you are asking how to install software from the CD set used to Install Mandriva. If the software you want to install is not provided by Mandriva, you may be able to use the second method I mention above unless the software is Windows software. If the software is for Windows, it will not run on Linux natively.

I recommend LIVE cd of any LINUX. Get familier with Linux first then go for installation on hard disk drive. :)
