Mandriva LE 2005 installation == no GUI
Greetings!
my first post and I should start out by saying that I am a newbie! I have installed Mandriva LE 2005, i have selected KDE as the graphical environemtn, and the option to start it (X i think its called?) at startup. Howeve when i boot the computer it always goes into command line mode. I have no idea how to even start KDE...
I have tried reinstalling it several times making sure I havent missed any options here and there. I have instaled and used Suse before, mandrake 9.1, and red hat, and all installations went smoothly on the same machine. I thought Linux is meant to be gettin be easier for newbies like myself to get into.
What can I do people? There is a smilar post on this forum, but the person said that they had this problem after a few weeks of using it...I can't even get the KDE to show up even once after installation.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Aristotel

I think if you do an 'expert' install it will give you the option to test your X settings during the installation. Then you can try it out during the install, and change (or reduce) your screen size, resolution, bit depth, etc. until it goes. Sometimes, you need to install a generic driver, get it going, then move up.
When the installation media begins, Press enter to install, or type 'expert' etc, type in 'expert' and give it a go.
Hope this helps!

Try logging in as your normal user in console mode, enter your password and then type "startx" and enter. You should be able to log into KDE. If you can't login, some errors should be printed on the screen, post them here.

You can set/test the video card during installation. When it gets to the summary section, look in the graphics part then and do the test.

Wow...thanks everybody!..
Ok...I did an update install so that I get to the screen where I can set the settings for graphic cards etc... I did a test on the monitor/graphic card settings and the scren went black, and then it said "An eror occured: (EE) No devices detected. Try to change some parameters"...I tried changing the graphic card to a generic Radeon setting...then did TEST and a coloured screen with coour stripes was showing, asking me if the setting was working..yes or no..so... it finally works!!!
Thanks to you all for your help!!!
WOOOOHOOO mandriva working!!!
