Mandriva keeps reverting back to "nv" driver

This is only a problem that happens in mandriva and I don't know why.Anyway, this is the problem. When I startup mandriva for the first time it always has the nv driver installed. I go through the proper channels and install th nvidia driver from one of the regular mandriva repositories. Everytime I restart the computer, the os reverts back to the "nv" driver no matter what I try to do to prevent it. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

The only thing I can think of is that mandriva is running it's xorg config script at each boot. Which it shouldn't be doing.

BTW: the process only alters the xorg.conf file, you don't have to actually reinstall the driver each time, just revert the conf.

Try:

cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.a

reboot and check that nv is back then copy them back.

The Mandriva nVidia driver package uses DKMS ,"dkms-nvidia97xx-1.0-9755.2plf2007.1.x86_64.rpm",

(Dynamic Kernel Module-loading Service (I think)) to load the module at start-up.

If you have the Proprietary nVidia module, you may uninstall the dkms nVidia module.

And make sure you xorg.conf file has nvidia listed, instead of nv, you should be OK.

Regards, Glenn

I agree... unfortunately OP has indicated that this has been done:

I suppose, for the sake of clarity, we should get confirmation of the exact method used to install the nvidia driver.

Well, I'm running mandriva one and everything is fine. The problem would only surface in mandriva powerpack 2007. Don't know why, but I'm fine now.

I have the same problem. I searched through other threads and I saw many views and opinions. You could download the proper nvidia drivers from here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-9755.html

Hope this solves the problem!
