Mandriva 2009 and rpmfind

Hi,

I'm thinking of installing Mandriva 2009 on a new system. However, over at rpmfind.net I can't seem to find any of the rpm for Mandriva 2009, only 2008.1 and earlier.

Can I use the 2008.1 packages on 2009?

That would probably lead to a very unstable system. The best (and easiest) way to install packages in Mandriva is to use urpmi to install from a Mandriva mirror.

Hi, another rpm web site for mandriva (and others) is rpm.pbone.net

http://rpm.pbone.net/

Personally I find this web site friendlier than rpmfind, although rpmfind has it's benefits too.

Check it out. (You need java installed.)

And easyurpmi.zarb.org is the first place to start to setup your repos for the system.

Cheers, Glenn

Thanks...I discovered pbone as well, and like it more than rpmfind too.

Another thing I do is use the addresses given from easyurpmi, you can search/browse the pages for the package you need/want.

Usually there is also older repos there too, so that special program may be found.

Also check out contrib, and the plf. For none free software Mandriva can not bundle with the dvd/cd-rom.

Regrads Glenn
