MANDRIVA 2008.1 - Wireless Connection drops / disconnects

After using the LiveCd of Mandriva One 2008 Spring, I decided to do a full install using the whole harddrive since my MSI Megabook has no operating system installed.

Anyway, after the usual configurations (nothing complex), I was able to get the Wifi working and connect to the internet via Firefox.

I noticed that the wireless gets disconnected after a few minutes (maybe 5) or when I try to actually surf actively.

It also gets disconnected when I try to go to the repos.

It is not the network that has a problem since the other laptops (non linux) are not having any problems and they are constantly connected without any disconnections.

It easily detects the wireless network connections but I can't seem to "really" surf or download the repos since the wireless gets disconnected regularly.

Once disconnected, I have to mannually re-connect then after a few pages of surfing, it gets disconnected again.

Any similar problems out there? What is the best solution for this wireless problem.

If you are using the Mandriva Linux 2008.1 (Spring) rc2, you may be better served to get the final (released yesterday April 9, 2008) and see if the trouble goes away (no guarantees, hut release candidates are not always as good as the final releases).

HTH,

(SOLVED)

I noticed that when I run the LiveCD the wireless does not drop, it only does when I intall the LiveCD.

This is what I noticed after some trial and error:

1) The wireless "antenna" icon is kept "lit" during the livecd usage.
2) The wireless "antenna" icon is not "lit" during the install.
3) The livecd recognizes the wireless network automatically on the livecd.
4) Once booting the install, I had to press the wireless button several times for it to be recorgnized and then it was recognized and then I could keep the icon lit to signify that the wireless was working.

For some reason, the running LiveCd seemed to be "better at" recognizing the wireless hardware than when I installed it.

But at the end of the day, Mandriva 2008.1 works flawlessly (so far) on my MSI MEGABOOK VR330

Haven't tinkered with any of the extra capabilities of Mandriva 2008.1 yet, all I want to do is to simply be able to surf wirelessly.

The wireless hurdle has been solved. This is a beautiful distro.

By the way, in my frustration... I even installed FEDORA 8 but... the mouse icon disappeared... from the livecd to the livecd installed. I guess,... not having the mouse cursor icon is a bigger problem... and so I went back to Mandriva 2008.1.

Cheers!

Well, glad you figured it out . It is a strange problem, though. Could possibly be a boot time dependent issue in some way - it works on the live CD because the boot process takes longer? Just casting around.
