I have recently installed Mandriva 2007.0. I had been running 10.1 but I figured it was time to upgrade. What a major mistake. After giving up on an upgrade, I bit the bullet and did a clean install. It did not help. I cannot get anything working again. Samba won't work, mod_auth_mysql won't work, mailman won't work, X11 from a remote won't work. I can't even do a silly nfs mount of my SnapServer. I can't even produce an error message somewhere.
Would someone please pick just one of the above and help me trouble shoot it. I have tried various forums for each problem and have gotten no reply to any. Surely there must be an expert here on one of these services that can help me. TIA.
One problem solved. Samba is now working. The problem is that the password sync does not work. Manually setting Samba passwords cured the problem. Anyone aware of this bug and if there is a fix for it?
Can anyone help with any of the other problems? TIA.

Even with the free version, you can go to the Mandriva mirror finder and set up media sources for updates and contribs, etc. I saw the ethical question as to basically being able to upgrade the "free" to "non-free" ... for free, discussed by the Mandriva forum mod Adam Williamson, and he said yes, this is not a mistake. One can indeed 'lawfully' add just about the entire power pack distrib on a base of the free version, by adding these media sources.
So I'd go there (through the mandrivaclub site) add "contribs" and such, add packages you might want/need, and run substantial updates before you get too flustered trying to config a bare-bones free install.
