Mandriva 2006 upgrade gets stuck

I am trying to upgrade from Mandrake 10.2 to Mandriva 2006 using the free download DVD. However, every time that I try, it gets stuck at "finding packages to upgrade". There is no DVD, HDD or network activity, but the mouse pointer and numlock are responsive. I have tried this more than once. Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be?

Have you tried using a different mirror?

That advice doesn't make any sense: I'm using the DVD.

LOL....

Sorry man. I overlooked your post!

What are your Update sources?
Take a look at your Update Sources in Mandrake Control Center (MCC) and you might find something.

I had a problem with a similar upgrade
I found it worked quicker and properly if I did a fresh install and did not format my user partition

The problem with that is that I don't have time to configure everything again. It took me months to get the system set up as it is.

Thank you for your reply. The update sources in the Control Center would be an FTP address; I'm not sure how that relates to my problem, though, because it fails on "finding packages to upgrade", and I have set it (as stated above) so that it only looks to upgrade packages from the DVD; in effect, the only upgrade source used during install should be the DVD itself, whatever it says in Mandrake Control Center for non-upgrade purposes.

A full install took me 1/2 hour
If you make sure you dont format the user partition all your personal configuration settings will be saved as is.

Also look at http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php?
and follow the instructions to add all the other rpms to your available packages lists..takes some time but its worth it

Thank you. That's what I had to do in the end. I don't have a separate user partition, but I backed up all the user directories onto a separate backup hard drive. It still takes longer to do it that way, though, because I have to reconfigure all my servers.
