Mandriva 2006 install problems
I installed Mandriva 2006 from the DVD ISO, onto my notebook: a Dell Inspiron 2650. Everything seems to install ok, but when I reboot to actually use the computer, and it boots up, then the screen dies, but the harddrive light stays solid.
Has anybody come across this? Any suggestions?

Have you tried to start in failsafe mode at startup?
When you restart, hit the Escape key, then press "I" to view each of the services as they are loading to see if there are any problems. If there is a problem, write down the service where there is a problem, and when it tries to load the next time, do not start that service.

Yeah, I tried that. But unless I'm missing something, it looks like everything goes up ok. Which really makes this confusing. Circumstances have forced me to backtrack to Mandriva LE2005, though. Still, if anybody has solutions...

you may want to consider moving to Mandriva 2006

Well, that's what I was trying to do. That's what I'm having the problems with. When I first installed LE2005, everything has worked pretty well (had a couple problems installing the new version of Firefox, but nothing else).
When installing Mandriva 2006, I attempted a clean install (NOT an update). As I said before, I have found no indications that any module is not initializing correctly. But when it gets to the point that it should start up in KDE, the harddrive light stays on (solid) and the monitor shuts off.
