Thumbs down Mandriva 2006 don't load with Nvidia MX4000

I tryed to install mandriva 2006 and after a succesfull install the SO freezes wile loading the grafic card. I try to install the new drivers from Nvidia (sh Nvidia...) and that didn't work. Is there another way to install the driver? The installation recognize the correct video card (I try all nvidia options and it freeze all the times) and it worked nice in mandrake 9.1.

from memory Nvidia drivers were .bin

you cant use sh

chmod +x Nvidia...
./Nvidia...

if for some reason it is .sh
sh ./Nvidia7389.sh

Do you have the kernel source installed? If not install the kernel-source package and then try to install the driver. Its more helpful if you list the steps you have taken when trying to resolve your problem and provide detailed info so that people have a rough idea about where exactly the problem is. Saying something like "I tried to install the driver and that didn't work", does not indicate where exactly in the installation of the driver you faced problems.

So my steps:
I downloaded the iso's and checked them;
I installed them in an empty drive;
Installation runs OK (personalized)
LILO runs OK (I have windows98 in another drive)
Mandriva starts
Mandriva hangs in a black screen with coloured stripes
Tried to reinstall mandriva (install all)
Hangs again
Tried another resolution and always hangs on test option (must turn off the PC)
Tried another video card with the same results (the installation recognizes the correct card but it didń work)
Downloaded new driver for Nvidia
sh nvidia didn't complete

I'm switching to Fedora now and will wait for another version

The nvidia driver installation won't complete without the kernel-source. Did you install it? I am suprised you are having such problems because I have a card based on the MX4000 and it works ok. If you proceed to install Fedora, good luck and hope the installation works fine this time.

I think the problem is with the portuguese installation. I have the same problem with old versions of conectiva and just forgot it. I'll try an english installation sometime. For now Fedora runs fine but I was use to Mandrake distro's.
