I think the DVD isos mentioned in the page are for the betas only, not the RCs.

i got the 2006 rc1 from the mandriva site ive had it about 3 days now and it seems to be as stable as 2005 if not more. i havent run into any issues with 2006 rc1 (beta) yet but if im not mistaken the final release for 2006 is this month like a few days i think thats what i saw.

i can't resist RC1, i installed it to replace 2005,
it runs well,
the design is nice,
openoffice is version 1.1.5

i couldnt resist either. im starting to like it for certain things im not liking the idea i cant get gtorrent for it and from what ive read ktorrent is beta and im kinda scared to try that.

i can connect to internet, play music and video.

nope, im no club member, i just thought that there were a RC1 DVD becourse of the text on that page :D

i dont remember what beta this was for but it said latest was beta 2 and when u hovered over it to the right it said beta 3. it was either suse or mandriva.

I free up 6GB in my notebook, later i will install the final release into it.

Mandriva 2006 RC1
 

Quick question, I downloaded and installed Mandriva 2006 RC1 and OMG it is almost there for the general public. It is excellent, I went and installed it on my neighbor's PC and he is liking it as well. I want to see Linux and Open Source Kill Microsuck.

Anyway, the only problem I am having is I can't get the package manager to connect to repositories. I won't even let me add them. It will ask for official or unoffical then it will pull up a list from assorted countries. When I select one, it goes through the motion but gives me some kind of funky error message. Unlike version 10.2, which connected flawlessly. It will only let me access the three CD's. Can anyone offer advice?

if you go to Easy Urpmi (http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/) and look under step 3 it tells you to type this before you start to clear all media:

# urpmi.removemedia -a

anyway if you do this first you will be able to add whatever you want.

if it won't let you do it, go to the urpmi directory (not sure what that is, but there is one) and do ls -a and look for 2 hidden files that are named something like "LOCK" and delete them. then do the above command and it will let you remove the cd's as sources. then, go ahead and post the commands from urpmi. should work

I tried your solution and still a problem. It will add the links to the software package updates but it will not all me to put a check in the box on the far left to enable it. After I add it and choose OK, if I return to the page, it will be unchecked.

It is kind of frustrating. Any additional help would be appreciated. I miss the apt-get of debian.

The tuxmachines review shows the smart package manager -- maybe you can try that?

servers will no longer be offerred in powerpack, only powerpack+????? That would seriously suck if that's the case. Am I misreading this?? According to this package list, this would seem to be the case: http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/2550

Now I'll have to pay major bucks to get basic servers?? :(

Mandriva 2006 RC1
 

Still no luck. I went and looked at the "smart package handler" but it has no easy install. The site lists a bunch of unrelated files in its link.

I love Mandriva, it is the only distro which automatically fires up the wireless on my laptop without having to fiddle with on reboot. If only I could get the software to update. The package handler built in to Mandriva is great but it will only let me access the CD's. I can add repositories but they won't work.

I decided to download the 3 CD's for RC1. I had trouble installing on my Dell Inspiron 600m laptop. The 1st CD kept crashing so I chose the option to install all 3 CD's to hard drive. It installed fine and I booted into KDE.

1st boot, the fonts were all small and all these menu items were missing from my KDE menu. I rebooted and the font problem was solved, but all my KDE menu items were missing.

In Mandriva 2005LE, my wireless Intel Pro2100 was detected with no problem. With RC1, it was unable to detect my wireless card. Because of that, I was unable to surf the internet. Plus all the missing applications and KDE menus turned me off. I went back to Mandriva 2005LE.

I'll give RC2 a try when it's ready. I must say that Mandriva 2005LE works perfectly with my Dell Inspiron 600m. I hope it will with the final release of Mandriva 2006.

Does anyone else know when the official release of 2006 is expected? Cant find any dates apart from "releasing it in the fall of 2005"

Like you guys, i'm itching to try it as KDE is supposed to be a world better in 3.4.2 and i've been unsuccessful in getting it to work on 2005 LE
