Mandriva 2006 ati r128 video problem

Mandrake 2006 official with Xorg 9.0 is refusing to work properly with my ATI Rage Fury card, and it appears the r128 driver is missing. Xorg's config tries to use the "ati" driver for the Rage 128 cards, instead of the r128 driver used by 2005LE/Xorg8 and earlier versions, producing a badly messed up screen.

Does anybody have any idea where the r128 driver for 2006/Xorg 9 can be found?

ATI and Mandriva 2006

Have you figuired this one out? I like Mandriva 2006, but WOW did they JACK up the graphics.

I have a Rage 128. I have to use the VESA driver just to be able to use KDE.

Someone else pointed out that the problem seems to be related to the Xorg version supplied with Mandriva 2006. It has been partially fixed in newer Xorg versions found on the Seer of Souls website at http://seerofsouls.com/rpm2006.html. If you check which Xorg packages are installed, and replace them with the SoS versions, you'll at least be able to use the "ati" driver, which is somewhat better than the vesa one.
They're still missing a proper r128 driver, though. I decided to get an nVidia card, and will see if that's any better when it gets here......

Funny you say that... I was thinking about going to an NVIDIA card, as my laptop has one and I know that NDIVIA has done a nice job with the installation script. Please post your experience, as I would love to tap dance on this ATI card!

UPDATE: the updated packages at the Seer of Souls site have me back in business! At least I can use the ATI 128 rage driver and everything appears normal!

MUCHO GRACIAS! THANKS! :)

I also have xorg 6.9.0 and my ATI Radeon 9600XT card doesn't currently work with the ATI driver I installed. basically the colors are messed up. the screen is yellow and purple. So which SOS rpms do I need to install?

ps. Nvidia was so much easier to configure!! worked like a charm.
