Thumbs up

After 1 1/2 half years messing around with Mandrake and Slackware trying to get something as simple as a speedtouch 330 usb modem working, downloading a script that eventually did get it working but after a reinstall never did so again on any computer I own and when it was working it would connect at startup and not allow you to disconnect or reconnect it.

Then after numerous bugs, problems and other annoyances, tedious installation of programs, cumbersome network configuration tools, I did start to wonder why I was bothering, so eventually I ran the Windows XP Pro recovery console, did fixmbr and then booted into XP and in logical disk manager simply formatted my Linux paritions into NTFS. No more Linux, no more headache.

You do realise 2006 is currently beta and in various states of brokenness, right?

If you want to be a beta-tester, the right place to ask your question is in the Cooker mailing list. If someone there suggests it is a bug, file a bug report in Bugzilla.
http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/CookerHowTo

Otherwise, you should install 2005 and you may find it works fine, or at least the 2005 users here can help.

Regardless, for help with this problem you'll need to provide details:
Model number of your ADSL modem
Connection type (USB or ethernet)
Name of ISP (some need specific configuration)
Contents of /etc/resolv.conf
Output of /sbin/route
Output of /sbin/ifconfig

As well as the contents of /etc/resolv.conf, the following would also help us to help you:

Model number of your ADSL modem
Connection type (USB or ethernet)
Name of ISP (since some need specific configuration)
Output of /sbin/route
Output of /sbin/ifconfig

The whole point of beta releases like this is to find things that are broken. If you're testing a beta release then get on the cooker mailing list and discuss your problems there and file bugreports on it at qa.mandriva.com. If you just want something that works then either install the latest stable release (2005LE) or wait for the stable release of 2006.

Using what? wizards are not perfect and will sometimes not be enough to get things working.

The interface may be up but that doesn't say anything about wether the connection is configured or even physically connected properly.

That's not very helpful. People in this thread have already asked for more details and you haven't provided any. We can't help you if you don't communicate the problem.

You've already posted several threads along the lines of 'its crap, I give up' most of which have been closed by the moderators. If you don't want help to solve the problem then don't post here - its not a complaints forum. If you do then start posting some of the info requested and someone may be able to help you.

i haven't given enough info here,
i know how to setup my modem very well in Windows XP,
i just don't understand why when i use Mandrivamove, it is just so easy to setup my broadband service and get connected immediately, however, it does not work the same way in mandriva full instal.
i already fdisk/mbr to remove mandriva, now, i use mandrivamove, no need to consume my HDD, but it is slow.
i just downloaded knoppix 3.9, i will try it tonight.
