Mandriva 2005 LE available with Linux Format
Ok, those who couldn't wait for Mandriva 2005 LE, you will be pleased to note that its included in Linux Format June 2005 issue if you have access to it. I have taken it for a spin and despite lacking bleeding edge packages, its quite a solid distro.

Do you subscribe? The issues I have seen on the newsstands are still for May 2005 - Slackware 10.1.

Yeah I subscribe. My copy usually shows up in the post about a week or two before they are out on the news stands.

I currently live in Leeds, but I am from Zimbabwe. I've lived in England since 98, but I'm going back to Zim in a month or so (I can't cope with another miserable winter ).

Hi all
Got my mag in the post yesterday .. couldn't wait.
Ripped the wrapper off .. shoved the DVD in .. rebooted the PC told it to upgrade and Bobs yer diddly.
I have a couple of minor niggles like the text in KDE desktop has gone pants and 2 shortcuts on the desktop which I just cannot get rid of but apart from that it all seems pretty smooth.
Good luck when you get yours.

Reddazz - yeah, Leeds is probably a lot colder than Zimbabwe LXF is an awesome mag, I've been buying it since issue 1 (in fact, I think I first heard about it in a PC Pro which cam with (if memory serves) Mandrake 8. I have every issue and the distros on cd/dvd absolutely rock.

Thats a big collection. I used to read PC Pro a lot as well and thats where I saw the ad for linux format. I buy it for the tutorials and articles. When I am back in Zim, the distros on their discs will save me a lot of bandwith because high speed internet access is a lot more expensive compared to the UK.

The distros on disk are an absolute lifesaver - I have given them away or keep a small 'hardcore' in my cd case for when I break my pc again and have to start from scratch
You could try writing to them and asking if they have any spares around for you to take back and distribute around LUGs, etc.

Thats a good idea, I will contact them asap. I had been thinking of creating an opensource software library for the lugs in Zim. The idea would be that lugs could pay a nominal fee to cover bandwith, media costs as well as postage and packaging. The lugs in return will be provided with access to archived distros as well as the latest ones to distribute to their members. This would save them the cost of importing the distros and having to pay lots in customs tax. I am sure it will work out, but I have to juggle my ideas around before I commit myself to this project.

Either that or buy a huge hard drive and grab a load of isos - it may be easier to carry around than a stack of cds.

No, I worked it out once , taking into consideration the then exchange rates etc and its cheaper in the shops. Mostly I think because the shipping in bulk is cheaper. But that doesnt bother me as I still think its a great mag
Another mag ( UK ) is Linux User that I keep an eye out for, but only if there is something that catches my attention, however I did pick up Ubuntu and give it a try from Linux User, another good mag !

floppy (I can't vouch for the whopper as I only eat at subway heh heh)
Newspower group have the mag out by airmail a couple weeks affer release at about A$22 for the cd edition
I subscribe tho because the trick it getting the DVD edition from that Newsagent is done by thinking of a number adding 6 and sending all but 1 copy to the big smoke.
As usual country folk miss out.
My last order was 13 copies for A$225 or $17 ea
