I'm normally pretty patient with computers but after finding out that about 4 of the linux distros that i as a linux noob have gone through unsuccessfully, I'm now trying to install mandriva 10.1. I run the disc and it gets to the part where it starts loading CD 1 and it asks me to insert the additional drivers floppy. what the dickens is an additional drivers floppy?!?!? please help me out.
I have a 5 year old Dell Optiplex GX100 running on about 400mhz Intel Celeron processor with maybe 64mb of RAM.
Welcome to LQ!
I would not suggest using Mandriva on that PC, too old. Try Ubuntu (really easy) or Xandros ( looks like windows) or something a little less power consuming, such as DSL or puppy or Deli or Feather.
Mandriva is compiled for i586 systems and probably requires a bit more ram than what you have for the graphical installation. You may also wish to take a look at vectorlinux or slackware. They both run fine on old hardware.
