Mandrake Update problem
I want to update my version of cdrecord and it was suggested I use the Mandrake control centre to do this. I went into Mandrake Update and found there are many packages that could be automatically installed if I selected them. I selected 4 (cdrecord, mkisofs, passwd & rpmdrake). However when I attempted to install them by clicking the install button on the GUI, I was given a warning message;
"The folowing packages have bad signatures" all 4 packages I had selected were listed as having "Missing signature, couldn't open file" "Do you want to continue anyway?" I got scared and backed out. What has gone wrong here? I have Mandrake 10. |
Hello!
It probably means it didn't downloaded/readed correclty (the files you where trying to install) do this: Open a console, (Xterm, Eterm, whatever (on System->Consoles)), and from there type "mcc" that means Mandrake Control Center. Then try to install the files again, on the console you'll see a better detail about what is going on. if you see the system is whining about an error downloading the file then what you can do is this: go to the packages install section in the control center. Press the update sources icon (my mandrake is in spanish, so I can't tell you the exact name, is the box with the RPM letters) Once there press the "Update" button and check everything except the instalation CD's . This will make mandrake to check for new files, because there's a good chance your mandrake sources are outdated and because of that it try to download a file that doesn't exist in the server anymore. when this procedure is finished (it won't appear a dialog, you'll go back to the package source manager again), press the OK button and try to install those packages again. Good luck!! |
99% of the time, Missing/Bad signature warnings are ignorable. You *should* update your sources before downloading any program updates, just to be sure.

Thanks,
What does "update your sources" mean? |
sources is the list of rpm packages your repository has. Mandrake Control Centre uses RPMDrake to install the software. see http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/URPMI
