Have you tried booting with that CD on any other machines? I'm wondering if its the computer or the CD that's causing your troubles.

Just to eliminate any problems about the actual download and burn, did you MD5Sum the file? You might also want to try re-burning the CD. You'd hate to spend days trying to trouble shoot only to find out the CD had a burn error in it :)

I just did what do i do with that

bigVoice 02-07-2004 12:32 PM

Do you mean you just re-burned it? Do you mean you want to know how to MD5Sum it? Could you re-phrase your response Minor723.

How do you MD5 sum it?

Today I had the same problem at an old 333Mhz laptop here at home. I suppose the system specs are just too low. Booting went extremely slow (though it appears five minutes are normal with MM, this was more like ten minutes), and then I also got this blinking underscore. Anyway, I'll give Mandrake Move a try at my desktop 1,8 Ghz computer in a couple of days, it'll work fine there, I suppose.

"How do you MD5 sum it?"

When you download from an FTP site or bittorrent, you should look for a file called something.md5sum. For example, I just downloaded Mandrake 10 Beta 2. In addition to 3 .iso files, there was also a file called "MandrakeLinux-10.0-beta2.i586.md5sum". When I opened up this file (its text) I see (among a few other things):

9e8c57e2018745aade8eba78f3d724f8 MandrakeLinux-10.0-beta2-CD1.i586.iso
aa7a8c299b008f96d39070b6589af4ea MandrakeLinux-10.0-beta2-CD2.i586.iso
6228f9b114daa6b047b7937740ed8352 MandrakeLinux-10.0-beta2-CD3.i586.iso

This means that the "code" for CD1 is "9e8c..." IF the file is uncorrupted. So I can test my iso file by typing into the console "md5sum MandrakeLinux-10.0-beta2-CD1.i586.iso" and then comparing the two "codes".

Also, if you use K3B, it will always tell you the MD5Sum of any ISO file you go to burn.

If the sums match, then you can be pretty sure that you have a full, uncorrupted download.
